Child Life Coach - Alex Emrick
We are located in Golden, Colorado.

From this point forward, I intend to follow my heart and make my living by pursuing my passion.

I will find children and young adults to coach. I will help them grow, and I will grow in the process.

We will have a tremendous impact on young lives!

What is a Life Coach and what is Our focus?

Life Coaching has increasingly become recognized as a viable mechanism to facilitate individual growth and change. The focus is on current and future behavior (we do not concentrate on the past, nor do we attempt to treat or diagnose mental illness or serious behavioral issues). A good Life Coach is a listener, a sounding board, a motivator, a teacher, a goal setter, a problem solver, an agent of change, etc. I have practiced all of these skills for five years in a Hospital setting and am confident in my ability to change lives.

Our practice is unique in the sense that we concentrate solely on children and young adults. We love working with young people and their parents. Some of our areas of concentration include:
  • decision guidance
  • managing peer pressure
  • assertiveness training
  • time management
  • accepting appropriate responsibilities
  • self image counseling
  • setting boundaries
  • defining and managing expectations
  • visualization
  • life transitions
  • college planning/managing the transition to college

Why does my child need a Life Coach (they weren't needed in the past)?
It often seems that this world is spinning out of control, and with it, our families. There is less family time, and greater common insecurity. The family dynamic is significantly different from what it was just a decade ago. Influences from media sources (movies, music, video games, texting, etc.) are frightening if not overwhelming.

Many children and young adults are dealing with divorce, and are caught right in the middle. We’ve witnessed horrible consequences when kids serve as  the middleman.

When times are difficult, and may even appear hopeless, we can help…

Why choose Pique Proficiency?
I invested five years exclusively counseling children and young adults (with eating disorders) at a major Denver area Hospital. I learned that kids need to laugh, and that they will open up to a person they trust. I’ve learned how to build a strong rapport with young people (both males and females), and have developed lasting friendships. I have seen lives change.

We can provide solid references from clients, parents, and co-workers.

We concentrate on the family dynamic, doing our utmost to improve communication channels. It is critical that your child's Life Coach is working to build a permanent bond between you and your child. We are committed to building on the mutual love between you and your child. We are also committed to developing a mutual respect between parents and their children. Internal family strife is devastating to all parties. We understand, and are here to help facilitate the healing. Parenting is sometimes overwhelming and thankless - but in the end, it is worth it!

We help our clients develop a direction for their life. We prod them to think, to make their own decisions, to be accountable, and then help them to shape their behavior appropriately. We can help to eliminate negative thoughts and behaviors by practicing optimism and stressing positive thoughts and actions.

We believe that we can provide a rewarding experience for the children and young adults we coach. We love working with young people. This is our passion and our calling! We can have a tremendous impact on young lives!

We promise to give 100% to the children and young adults we coach! In most cases, a few hours a month can yield significant results. We can be a positive sounding board for your child; and help them grow and learn to make worthy decisions.

Counseling/Coaching Athletes
Pique Proficiency is also uniquely positioned to provide coaching services for young athletes. I coached youth sports for several years and served as varsity pitching coach at Conifer High School. I have demonstrated the ability to counsel and coach young athletes. I played college baseball in California and Iowa (baseball and basketball in High School). I played with, and against, a number of current professional baseball players while in the Los Angeles area J.C. Leagues.

Many athletes struggle with staying on course, we are familiar with these issues and can provide sound direction. I am intimately familiar with their concerns, pressures, interests, multi-tasking skills, and time constraints. Sometimes, chatting while throwing a baseball or shooting hoops can break down barriers. It is a thrill to be a positive influence in the life of a young athlete!

How does the Life Coaching process proceed?
I recommend that the initial session (which is FREE) should begin with the child and at least one parent.

This meeting should take the following form:
  • Parent(s) and the young person should discuss their feelings, and their struggles.
  • This should be a brainstorming session where all parties present ideas, frustrations, etc.
  • It is a forum for free, interactive communication.
  • Collective goal setting - how do we get from here to where we want to be.
  • Thinking outside the box. How can we provide the client with the tools to fly on their own.

We need to determine if the young person actually has the motivation to pursue the Coaching relationship. The parent(s), young person, and coach need to be on the same page. Only then, can we mutually decide if we think the relationship is a good fit. If so, we can determine the frequency and format of future sessions.
